  Introduction - Qualifications

The Textile Institute offers members throughout the world the opportunity to enhance their standing by the attainment of professional qualifications. The possession of a professional qualification indicates that the holder has a sound knowledge of one or more aspects of the industry and/or its products, has applied that knowledge, and demonstrated a high standard of professional competence.

The Textile Institute's professional qualifications are acknowledged by many national governments as well as by industry and commerce. Chartered qualifications are recognised under the European Union's Directive 89/48/EEC, and by the Public Service Commissions of most Commonwealth countries. The Licenciateship is recognised under the European Union's Directive 92/51/EEC on mutual recognition of professional qualifications.

There are three professional qualifications for which members can apply:

Licentiate (LTI)

Award of this qualification recognises a specialist knowledge in one area and at least one year's professional experience.

Associate (CText ATI)

The Associateship is a Chartered qualification. It is awarded to members who have reached an academic standard at the level of an accredited or equivalent degree and have a broad knowledge across fields of textiles related to their particular area of specialisation. There is also a requirement for at least two years' professional experience after attaining the required academic standard.

Fellow (CText FTI)

The Fellowship is a Chartered qualification. In addition to satisfying the requirements for Associateship, holders must have made a major personal creative contribution to the industry.
