The Institute of Textiles and Clothing, a constituent unit of the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles, is the pioneer of tertiary education in textiles and clothing in Hong Kong and the leading centre for education and research in the textile and clothing field in the region.

The mission of the Institute is to serve the Hong Kong community through the provision of quality educational programmes, research, consultancy and professional services in fashion and textiles. The activities are anticipated to extend to neighbouring regions and the international arena.

The Institute is home to a wide range of academic programmes covering subject disciplines from fashion and textile technology, fashion and textile design, fashion and textile marketing and merchandising, to fashion retailing and distribution. These programmes are offered at various levels up to Doctoral degree in full-time and part-time learning modes. Currently, there are 53 full-time academics in the above subject disciplines.

The Research Institute of Intelligent Wearable System (RI-IWEAR) is one of the research institutes under PolyU Academy of Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR). The RI-IWEAR is hosted by the Institute of Textiles and Clothing. RI-IWEAR aims to achieve international excellence via impactful interdisciplinary research program, global academic and industrial
collaboration, knowledge and technology transfer, and human resource enhancement. The mission of RI-IWEAR is:
(a) to conduct impactful research in IWEAR that leads to advancement of scientific knowledge and successful technological developments of high-performance and cost- effective fibrous materials, flexible electronic devices, intelligent wearable systems, scalable processes for device fabrication and system integration, as well as accredited evaluation methods
(b) to develop innovative IWEAR products that improve health and safety, enhance communication, well-being, connectivity and quality of life by collaboration with various sectors and industries
(c) to promote transfer of the IWEAR technology to industry and development of new knowledge-based industries in Hong Kong and beyond
(d) to provide technological infrastructure and manpower training for the wearable electronics industry and beyond via the platform of the RI-IWEAR

Duties
The appointees will be required to:
(a) conduct interdisciplinary research in intelligent wearable systems as the main duty, and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, Innovation and Technology Fund and other competitive external fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator
(b) provide supervision of MPhil or PhD students
(c) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level
(d) contribute to the research institute’s service
(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Institute, the Director of RI-IWEAR or their delegates

Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a doctoral degree and preferably postdoctoral experience in:
 multiphysics modelling of electronic devices and systems with expertise in
physical/mechanical/computer; or
 electronic system integration engineering and/or advanced packaging of
microelectronic; or
 biomedical engineering with instrumentation expertise; or
 fibrous electronic devices and systems integration; or
 a related discipline;
(b) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creativity in research in some subdivisions of his/her field
(c) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills
(d) be able to demonstrate quality in effective interdisciplinary teamwork; and
(e) be highly proficient in written and spoken English. Other language skill like Putonghua is an additional advantage

Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for three years initially, with possibility of extension for another three years. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
