Strategic Technical Manager – Textiles - The Textile Institute

We are recruiting for a Strategic Technical Manager for Textiles. This role is positioned within WRAPs Business Collaboration directorate; the engine room for our award winning and world-renowned voluntary agreements, including Textiles 2030. The Strategic Technical Manager for Textiles provides leadership and core expertise on reducing the environmental impact of and developing circularity in textiles. This role provides strategic steer across WRAPs programmes of business behaviour change, citizen behaviour change, as well as policy support. You will be responsible for leading on the technical strategy for delivery of Textiles 2030 as well as supporting WRAPs global growth in this area. You will have your finger on the pulse of current and emerging sustainability issues related to textiles, identifying strategic priorities, and evaluating progress towards targets. You will collaborate with the Delivery Manager for Textiles, as well as the Business Account Management and Technical Delivery teams to ensure that activities and outputs are focused to deliver business behaviour change and high impact. Your role as a thought leader of the Technical Team is critical, but you will not be responsible for line management.

Once in role you will build strong, senior level partnerships with key businesses, governments and stakeholders to meet Textiles 2030 targets and develop opportunities for growth. You will be a recognised expert and a key spokesperson on textiles for WRAP at major events. When applying for the role, you’ll be asked to describe how you meet the following job essentials:

  • Significant technical knowledge and demonstrable evidence of experience and understanding of the textiles value chain, developed through combination of education (i.e. degree) and relevant industry/sector work experience or significant experience within a business or consulting environment.
  • Demonstrable evidence of experience and knowledge of measuring, evaluating and reducing the environmental impacts of textiles.
  • Strong relationship management experience, with the ability to bring together a wide range of stakeholders to drive change, secure commitment and aid collaborative working.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to act as an external ambassador for WRAP and engage effectively and compellingly with a range of audiences in writing and in person.

You might be pleased to know that we’ve moved to hybrid working here at WRAP. Although this role is contractually based at one of our offices (Banbury, Cardiff or Belfast), in reality you will be able to work from home, with the caveat of coming into the office to collaborate with your teams as and when you need to. You, your manager and your teams will have the freedom to decide when this will need to happen, but when it is agreed it will be important that you do attend the office. If you are invited for an interview, this can be discussed in more detail.

WRAP is a climate action NGO working around the globe to tackle the causes of the climate crisis and give the planet a sustainable future. Our vision is a thriving world in which climate change is no longer a problem.

At WRAP we believe that our natural resources shouldn’t be wasted. And that everything we use should be re-used and recycled. Our mission is to make the world a more sustainable place. We bring people together, we act on the facts, and we drive change.

Our core purpose is to help tackle climate change and protect our planet by changing the way things are produced, consumed and disposed of.

If you join us at WRAP – and we think you should – you’ll help us by tackling sustainable product design, reducing waste, encouraging re-use or advocating recycling across the food and drink, plastic packaging, clothing and textiles and the collections and recycling sectors.

You can help us all to do better.
