Job Description

A vacancy has arisen for a Textile Designer in the Engineering Department at Denham. The purpose of this role is to design textile assemblies, mechanical interfaces and textile assembly manufacturing tooling for MBA products. This includes research, design, prototyping, testing, introduction to manufacturing, and product support.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Work within a team environment, liaising between departments (as well as working individually) on projects and tasks where an in-depth knowledge of textile materials, manufacturing techniques and an appreciation of mechanical design is required.
  • Co-develop the mechanical interface between textile assemblies and seat structures, advising Mechanical Engineers of design constraints related to textiles.
  • Produce and record patterns, assembly notes and data packs for textile assemblies, mechanical interfaces and tooling with an understanding of MBA procedures and external standards.
  • Develop the tools, techniques and instructions for the creation of textile-related assemblies.
  • Work closely with production personnel for the introduction of new products, manufacturing equipment and production techniques.

Education & Qualifications

  • Possess a practical understanding of mechanical, material, and chemical sciences.
  • Good understanding and competency with textile assembly manufacturing processes and technology, especially cutting and joining techniques.
  • Able to perform 2D/3D geometric and textile-related engineering calculations.
  • Understanding of woven, non-woven, and knit fabric properties and materials.
  • Understanding of rigid and semi-rigid materials related to textile assemblies.
  • 2D/3D textile pattern making skills including modification and documentation.

Specific / Technical Skill

  • CAD experience
  • Good command of English grammar and word processing.
  • Graphic skills – freehand, digital and photographic.
  • MS Office (suite of applications)
  • Sewing skills (machine and hand)
  • Good hands-on skills including sewing room and mechanical hand tools.
  • Good spatial awareness.

Knowledge & Experience 

Relatable Degree or demonstrable experience
