Rolls-Royce Motor Cars are seeking a dynamically motivated and creatively inspired person to join the Interior Trim Centre Project Planning team, bringing an expert knowledge in textiles. Potential candidates must bring with them experience in textile construction and application, ideally within upholstery industry and be able and willing to apply this within an Automotive environment.

The role will require the integrate of their textile knowledge and transfer this into tangible applications for luxury & functional textiles in the context of automotive environments. Working together with our Design and Engineering departments, they will need to identify and develop concepts for current and future Rolls-Royce Luxury Interiors. Added to this will be the ownership of our Craftsmanship strategy within the Interior Trim Centre and the application of textiles and leather to support bespoke, coach build and one-off interiors of the future.

Whilst Textile application experience is a must, training and coaching in the luxury automotive sector and specific skills relating to Interior trim manufacturing can be provided to a successful candidate.

Main responsibilities

  • Research and identify new textiles for both upholstery and product construction use based on future strategic needs or based on individual customer demands.
  • Provide initial feasibility studies to short list textiles from theoretical ideas into targeted applications and work packages that leading to product trials and validation of concepts.
  • Full responsibility of taking proposed textiles into a business case calculation including existing or new equipment requirements, production system, value stream & cost calculation for both invest and production costs.
  • Define standards and guidelines for use & placement of textiles within the interior trim based on existing Rolls-Royce lessons learnt, personal knowledge & experience as well as industry best practise.
  • Provide complex problem solving for existing textiles used in production, leading to root cause analysis and solutions
  • Ability to assess Bespoke and Engineering New Product concepts regarding textile placement with focus to reduce costs, zero defect, throughput and machine capacities.
  • Lead and steer a small team of development associates to deliver individual work packages within the Craftsmanship Strategy.

Qualifications

  • 5 years textile and upholstery experience within the context of an industrial and manufacturing environment.
  • Degree or Master’s relevant to textiles or application of textiles/ science or equivalent.
  • Ability to interpret engineering CAD data and tolerances.
  • Excellent organisational, presentation and problem-solving skills.
  • Good Project Management skills, able to prioritize activities, set milestone reviews and present regular Management summaries.
  • Good IT skills with Microsoft office applications.
  • Excellent communication skills both visual and verbal, with the ability to express technical knowledge and recommendations in clear and concise manner.
  • Proven leadership skills to steer and coach development associates with result driven tasks.
  • Fluent English is essential and basic German is desirable.
  • The candidate must work effectively with internal production, development and planning functions as well as external suppliers. Liaison with colleagues in Germany required.
