Dr Morris, a surgeon and textile expert, will present ‘Improving Healthcare with Textiles’, exploring the intersection of medical science, sustainability, and textile innovation.

Good colour fastness in garments is a standard we automatically expect from our clothing, but certain conditions can affect how well they retain their colour.

When textiles and garments are exposed to agitations such as laundering (with washing liquor), perspiration, sea water/water, and rubbing, the fibres and yarns can bleed colour, causing a decline in the colour fastness of the product.

It is crucial that manufacturers take the correct precautions to ensure that the textiles they produce remain colour fast, able to withstand exposure to a great many different forms of agitation.

Testing using relative standard methods is essential to assess the efficacy of the product, to then confirm that the end products meet acceptable international standards.

This webinar will cover:

  • Defining colour fastness
  • The different forms of agitation
  • Standards, equipment and consumables for testing
  • Conducting the tests and assessing the results
  • The risks with not testing for colour fastness

Prof (Dr) Darlie O Koshy PhD (IIT, Delhi)

Exploring innovation, sustainability & impact in the fashion world Dr Darlie Koshy is a distinguished leader in India’s Handloom, Textile, Fashion, and Design sectors, with over 45 years of impactful experience. He has served as the Director of the National Institute of Design (NID) and Chairman of NDBI, Ahmedabad, where he played a pivotal role in transforming design education through innovation and technology. A founding faculty member of NIFT, New Delhi, Dr Koshy has also authored influential works such as Indian Design
Edge and RUNway to Skilled India. A three-term Board Member of the World Design Organization, he currently advises the World Crafts Council-AISBL and mentors several national skill development initiatives. Dr Koshy is globally recognized for championing
sustainability, innovation, and design thinking across both education and industry.
