TI local, national and International events simulate new business ideas and provide opportunities to raise the profile of both individuals and organisations. In addition they provide information on general trends throughout the industry and an enhanced knowledge of different cultures and nationalities.

Latest Events

The 109th Annual General Meeting was hosted at The Lowry, Salford on the 23 May 2019.

          

Medals & Awards Lunch and Ceremony 2019 which was sponsored by The Cotton Council International celebrated the achievements of our Members within the textile industry complete with a three course lunch, stunning views across the Salford Quays and a unique and sustainable gift bag sponsored by VeriVide. Awards were also sponsored by Taylor & Francis and M&S.

The Textile Institute World Conference

This event is held at exciting and relevant locations around the globe and is in an important meeting point for the textile industry and members worldwide. The social events associated with the conference bring together the global community to enjoy the host country’s culture and hospitality.

Training and Seminars

The TI currently runs a number of training courses; Introduction to Textiles, Introduction to clothing and Bespoke Courses that can be tailored upon request.

Introduction to Textiles training course

This three day intensive training short course, offered twice a year (Usually March and October), is organised for the benefit of all those who are engaged in the manufacture, research and development as well as the commercial aspects of textiles business.

The course is split into seven sessions covering;

Fibres; their production, properties and areas of application.
Yarns; their production, properties and areas of application.
Weaving; yarn preparation, fabric production, fabric structure, fabric properties and areas of application.
Warp and weft knitting; fabric production, fabric structure, fabric properties and areas of application.
Non-woven Fabrics; classification, web formation, wet-laid, dry-laid and polymer-laid fabric production, fabric properties
and areas of application.
Dyeing & Finishing; preparatory processes for different textile materials, dyeing, principles of colouration.
Fabric Testing & Analysis; fabric performance, fabric specifications, fabric testing and analysis.

Introduction to Clothing training course

The Textile Institute launched their latest series of short courses in 2015. Under the umbrella title of Introduction to Clothing, these courses are intended as a complementary offering to the Introduction to Textiles course which has been successfully running since 2010.

The six separate courses aim to provide a basic introduction to each subject and is intended for anyone beginning their career in the clothing industry. Whether this be an operative level, a new graduate from another discipline or management level coming from another industry sector. Each course runs for one full day and delegates may choose to attend individual courses or build up a knowledge by attending some or all of the courses.
The courses are approved by The Textile Institute, a system of validation assessed by independent and impartial experts. Each individual course accrues credit which along with a specified period of working practice may be used towards obtaining Textile Institute chartered professional qualifications.

The course is formed of 6 separate topics; Size & Fit, Fabric Knowledge, Garment Specifications, Introduction to the Global Clothing Industry, Understanding Garments and Product Development.

Parliamentary Lunch

Every year the TI holds a lunch in the Cholmondeley Room at The House Of Lords, London, UK. The lunch is generously hosted by The Lord Haskel CompTI CText ATI. The lunch is the highlight of the TI calendar, welcoming Members and guests from all over the world. The day is filled with a drinks reception, three course meal, infamous chocolate truffles and speeches from The Lord Haskel, The World President of the TI and the Chairman of the TI, all with a stunning view of the Thames and across London.

Premier Corporate Members of the TI receive a complimentary place at the Parliamentary Lunch.

The next Parliamentary Lunch date is Friday 8 November 2019.
