Date: Saturday 14 December 2024

Venue: LH Complex, IIT Delhi, Delhi, India

The Conference primarily aims at raising awareness, inspire action, and forge collaborative pathways towards
a more sustainable textile and clothing industry.

Background of the conference

India’s textile sector, a cornerstone of the economy, meets significant domestic fabric demands and plays a pivotal role in job creation and export revenue. Amidst its economic contributions, the sector faces growing environmental concerns, emphasizing the urgency for sustainable practices. In the face of climate change and resource depletion, embracing circular economy principles— focusing on resource conservation, waste reduction, and exploring end- of-life alternatives—becomes imperative.

The Circle Back campaign, launched by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India aims to reshape consumer behavior towards a more circular and responsible textile industry. This campaign especially seeks to leverage the influential power of youth, empowering them as future leaders to steer the sector towards sustainability. To further this goal, a one-day conference is being organized by North India Section of the Textile Institute (NISTI) in collaboration with IIT on 14 December 2024 at IIT Delhi.

This Conference aims creating a dynamic forum for discussing this pressing issue at various levels— within the industry, through the lens of entrepreneurship, and across the entire supply chain. This event will gather students, policy makers, industry experts, and academicians to not only discuss jobs, market trends, and opportunities but also to foster a space for innovation and collaborative problem-solving.
