William Peter Bohm CompTI CText FTI FCFI (1934–2026)

It is with great sadness that The Textile Institute formally announces the death of William (Bill) Bohm CompTI CText FTI FCFI, who passed away on 10 July 2026 at the age of 91.

Bill was a highly respected figure across the clothing, fashion, education and textile industries, dedicating more than six decades to professional development, knowledge sharing and supporting the next generation of industry professionals.

A long-standing member and supporter of both the Clothing and Footwear Institute and The Textile Institute, Bill played a significant role in bringing the two organisations together and continued his valued contribution to the Institute for more than 30 years. Through his work with the London and South East England Section, Special Interest Groups, educational initiatives and major Institute events, he became a familiar and much-loved figure, known for his enthusiasm, generosity and ability to bring people together.

His career spanned senior roles in clothing manufacturing, higher education and professional development, including leadership positions at DAKS Simpson Ltd, the Burton Group and the London College of Fashion. His commitment to education, innovation and mentoring influenced countless students, academics and professionals throughout his life.

Bill’s contribution was recognised through numerous honours, including The Textile Institute Lemkin Medal, Holden Medal for Education, Fellowship of the Clothing and Footwear Institute, Fellowship of The Textile Institute, Institute Medal and Companion of The Textile Institute.

He leaves behind a remarkable legacy built on the people he inspired, the opportunities he created and the knowledge he shared. He will be greatly missed by colleagues, friends and members of The Textile Institute worldwide.
