Approval Application
The Textile Institute’s brand is an international sign of excellence. Through our Approval scheme, the TI can award ‘Approved’ status to good quality short courses, online courses, in-house training, and programmes not eligible for full TI accreditation.
The TI can also assign credit to approved courses where students have set assessment outcomes. Students can put this credit towards gaining TI professional qualifications, or use it to demonstrate their commitment to continuing professional development.
To apply for Approval, please submit an Approval application form for each course. To apply for Approval with Credit, submit an Approval with Credit application form for each course.
Pricing
All providers must pay an application fee for each course they wish to Approve or Re-approve. Once The Textile Institute (TI) completes its assessments, providers will pay a registration fee for each course that qualifies for Approval.
Application fees are the same for Corporate Members and Non-Members. However, registration fees differ depending on membership.
Corporate Members of the TI receive a 50% discount on registration fees as well as additional discounts for registering multiple courses.
Non-members do not receive the flat 50% registration discount available to Corporate Members, but they still receive discounts for registering multiple courses.
Application fees (Corporate Members and Non-Members)
- Approval of new course (i.e. courses not previously Approved by the TI): £100 per course
- Reapproval of course that has undergone major changes*, but which remains broadly the same in scope and intent: £50 per course
- Reapproval of course that remains unchanged or which has only undergone minor changes** (also known as renewal of approval): No application fee
Please note:
* Examples of major changes include: change of course title; changes to course learning or training aims/objectives; changes to content of course or constituent modules or course units offered (if applicable) that significantly affect course learning or training aims/objectives, outcomes, or contact/study hours; changes to mode of delivery with significant changes to course duration; changes in assessment methods.
** Examples of minor course changes include: small updates to course content (providing there have been no significant increases or decreases in contact hours or changes to learning/training aims, objectives and outcomes).
Courses that have undergone major changes to the extent that they have effectively become new courses are not eligible for Reapproval. A new application must be submitted and the standard £100 application fee will apply.
Course providers are encouraged to keep a log of any changes made to courses under major and minor headings to simplify the re-approval process.
Registration fees (Corporate Members)
- First course: £200
- Second course: £160 (20% discount)
- Third and subsequent courses: £120 per course (40% discount)
Example
If a Corporate Member university applies to Approve four new courses, it would pay £400 in application fees (4 × £100). If all four courses pass the assessment and qualify for Approval, the total registration fees would be £600 (£200 + £160 + £120 + £120), bringing the total cost to £1,000.
Registration fees (Non-Members)
- First course: £400
- Second course: £320 (20% discount)
- Third and subsequent courses: £240 per course (40% discount)
Example
If a Non-Member university applies to Approve four new courses, it would pay £400 in application fees (4 × £100). If all four courses pass the assessment and are Approved, the total registration fees would be £1,200 (£400 + £320 + £240 + £240), bringing the total cost to £1,600.
Application Process
Submission for all approval is by application; each course is assessed individually to ensure that the training on offer is of the highest standard and supports the learning needs of people employed within the textile, clothing and footwear industries.
