Call for Papers

The Manchester and the North West Section of The Textile Institute is pleased to provide students with this opportunity to present their research in a formal yet supportive environment.

 Textiles and Life 4

A special one day conference presented by students for students

Why Textiles and Life?  Textiles touch all of us, every day; from the clothes we wear and the furnishings in our homes to disposables we use for health, hygiene, and cleaning purposes. Textiles are a major component in vehicles, sportswear and sports equipment, in the theatre and in architecture, and even as replacement arteries and valves in our bodies.

Please come and share your work with us whether it be design orientated, technology driven, or business related.

Abstracts are invited from final year undergraduates (individuals or groups) and postgraduate research students. We very much welcome submissions from international students, who, if successful but unable to attend in person, must forward a recording of their presentation to be broadcast at the event.

The process

You will need to submit an abstract of your proposed paper (no more than 300 words) by Thursday 29th February 2024.

The abstract should include a brief introduction/background to the research, how you conducted the work and a statement on what conclusions you were able to draw.

An experienced panel will consider your abstract and will inform you within a few weeks of the submission date if your paper has been accepted.  If you have not heard anything within 8 weeks of the submission date it is unlikely that your abstract has been successful*.

If your abstract is accepted for oral presentation, you will need to submit the complete written paper approximately 6 weeks later (firm dates to be given in due course). Should you fail to provide the full text your presentation slot will be assigned to someone else. All presenters will be required to register as delegates.

Closer to the conference you will be asked to forward your PowerPoint presentation so it can be uploaded to equipment at the conference venue.

Successful presenters will have their papers published in the Textiles and Life 4 Conference Proceedings.

What to do next:  Please prepare your 300-word abstract and forward it to mannw@textileinst.org.uk  by Thursday 29th February 2024.
