Reviews the burning behaviour of textile materials in terms of their ability to generate flammable volatile liquids and gases under the action of heat and their subsequent ignition. The use of the limiting oxygen-index in the measurement of textile flammability is surveyed and its dependence on fibre and fabric variables is discussed.
