Accreditation Application

Benefits of Accreditation

Accreditation of programmes benefits providers and learners by:

  • promoting the provider as a leading international textile education body
  • facilitating the maintenance of educational standards between different countries
    and specialisations
  • establishing a programme’s quality through a professional and international
    peer-assessment process
  • providing further opportunities for graduates to take up textiles-based careers

Application Process

Accreditation is by application which is assessed by a small panel of experts and ratified by the Professional Qualifications Committee.

To apply, course providers need to pay the application fee (£200) and submit the application form including as much detail about the course as possible.

The fee can be paid via the website or the provider can request an invoice. Please submit the application form via email to: qualifications@textileinst.org.uk

This application will then be assessed by a small panel of experts.

In some instances, the panel may wish to visit the provider, interview staff or ask for further information to assist in the assessment.

The final decision is then ratified by the Professional Qualifications Committee. The provider can then register the accreditation which lasts for 5 years. If a course undergoes major changes (defined below) within the 5 year accreditation window, the provider must submit the course for reaccreditation, outlining the changes that have been made.

Forms and Guidance

See below application forms for LTI and ATI accreditation, descriptions of Licentiate and Associate members and a Mock ATI application form.

Accreditation Fees

All providers must pay an application fee for each course they wish to accredit or reaccredit. Once The Textile Institute (TI) completes its assessments, providers will pay a registration fee for each course that qualifies for accreditation.

Application fees are the same for Corporate Members and Non-Members. However, registration fees differ depending on membership.

Corporate Members of the TI receive a 50% discount on registration fees, as well as additional discounts for registering multiple courses.

Non-members do not receive the flat 50% registration discount available to Corporate Members, but they still receive discounts for registering multiple courses.

Application fees (Corporate Members and Non-Members)

  • Accreditation of new course (i.e. courses not previously accredited by the TI): £200 per course
  • Reaccreditation of course that has undergone major changes*, but which remains broadly the same in scope and intent: £100 per course
  • Reaccreditation of course that remains unchanged or which has only undergone minor changes** (also known as renewal of accreditation): No application fee

Please note:

*Examples of major changes include: change of programme title; material changes to programme learning aims/objectives; changes to compulsory modules or course units offered; addition of a new pathway or specialism; addition of a year abroad/placement option; changes of award type (e.g. BSc to BA).

**Examples of minor course changes include: small changes to mode of delivery with no significant increase or decrease in contact hours; changes to optional course units with no substantial impact on learning outcomes; changes in assessment weightings with no change in mode of assessment.

Courses that have undergone major changes to the extent that they have effectively become new courses are not eligible for reaccreditation. A new application must be submitted and the standard £200 application fee will apply.

Registration fees (Corporate Members)

  • First course: £300
  • Second course: £240 (20% discount)
  • Third and subsequent courses: £180 per course (40% discount)

Example
If a Corporate Member university applies to accredit four new courses, it would pay £800 in application fees
(4 × £200). If all four courses pass the assessment and are accredited, the total registration fees
would be £900 (£300 + £240 + £180 + £180), bringing the total cost to £1,700.

Registration fees (Non-Members)

  • First course: £600
  • Second course: £480 (20% discount)
  • Third and subsequent courses: £360 per course (40% discount)

Example
If a Non-Member university applies to accredit four new courses, it would pay £800 in application fees
(4 × £200). If all four courses pass the assessment and are accredited, the total registration fees
would be £1,800 (£600 + £480 + £360 + £360), bringing the total cost to £2,600.
